What to expect on a 20-minute discovery call

It is a short call to see whether a fixed-price site fits your business, not a sales pitch. Here is what I ask, what you should have handy, and what you get afterward.

A discovery call here is twenty minutes on the phone or video. I use it to learn what you sell, which town you are in, and whether Starter, Grow or Complete is the honest size. I do not quote a custom hourly rate on that call, and I do not ask you to decide on the spot. If the answer is that you do not need a new site yet, I say so and we hang up.

What the call is for

Most owners who book a call already know they want a website. What they do not know is which of the three fixed sizes matches how customers actually reach them: walk-in shop, mobile trade, seasonal hours, US customers across the border, or a Facebook page that has become the whole front door.

The call sorts that in one conversation instead of three emails. I listen for how many services you sell, how many towns matter, and whether you need booking, a store, or a simple inquiry form. That maps directly to the three prices on the pricing page, which stay the same whether you are in Fort Erie, Welland or Buffalo-side.

What to have ready

You do not need a brief or a slide deck. These four things are enough:

If you are comparing quotes, it helps to know what the other quote included or left vague, especially who owns the domain and hosting. The guide to what a small business website should cost lists the questions that separate an honest quote from a stall.

How the twenty minutes usually go

How the twenty minutes usually go
MinuteWhat happens
0–3You describe the business and how customers reach you today
3–10I ask about pages, photos, towns, and anything seasonal or cross-border
10–15I say which size fits and what it costs, in Canadian dollars, one time
15–20You ask whatever is still unclear: timeline, financing, maintenance, who writes the copy

I take notes. I do not record the call unless you ask me to, and I do not add you to a mailing list.

What you get after

Within one business day I email a short written summary: the size I recommend, the price, what I need from you to start (photos, logos, logins if you already have a domain), and a target launch window if you have a season or opening date in mind.

If you want to proceed, the next step is a single invoice for the agreed size. Work starts when that is paid. If you need time, the email is yours to keep; nothing expires and nobody chases you.

What the call is not

It is not a free website audit of your SEO, your ads, or your accounting software. For Google listing work, Niagara SEO is the sibling practice and a separate conversation.

It is not a commitment to buy. Owners who book a call and decide to stay on Facebook for another year have still used the time well if they know what they are deferring.
